Avocado Toast - My Way!
Avocado toast is a super easy breakfast that I like to eat when I feel like something delicious, healthy, and filling. I like to make mine “upgraded” with a squeeze of lemon juice, a drizzle of olive oil, red pepper flakes, and nigella seeds for added flavor and texture. Because the main part of this dish is avocados, it is important that you use fresh, good quality, ripe avocados for the best possible flavor. This recipe is super simple and just about any one can make it!
Nigella seeds are a black seed that looks similar to a sesame seed, but has an oregano-onion flavor. They are used in the Middle East in breads and string cheese. If you can’t find them, black sesame seeds are a great alternative.
Avocado Toast
Makes 1 serving
Ingredients
1 Slice of Bread ( I like using Dave’s Killer Bread or a slice of sourdough)
1/2 Ripe Avocado
Lemon
Pinch of Salt
Pinch of Red Pepper Flakes
Pinch of Nigella or Black Sesame Seeds
Optional: Parmesan Shavings
Directions
Toast bread until desired brownness.
Cut the avocado half in half again. Slice one piece into thin slices and save. Mash the other piece onto the slice of bread.
Squeeze some lemon juice onto the mashed avocado and incorporate. Sprinkle salt on top.
Then, layer the avocado slices on top, sprinkle red pepper flakes, nigella seeds, and a little more salt.
Finally drizzle olive oil on top. If desired you can add Parmesan shavings at the end.
Enjoy!
