Momofuku Noodle Lover's Box Taste Test

Momofuku Noodle Lover's Box Taste Test

When I heard the Momofuku was coming out with their own noodles, I knew I had to try them! The Noodle Lover’s box comes with the three flavors: soy & scallion, tingly chili, and spicy soy. Here is what I thought!

The Soy & Scallion noodles tasted very similar to A-Sha Tainan noodles that I once bought at Costco. The noodles are wider, but the the soy sauce flavor is practically the same. I like the flavor - it was savory and salty, but it didn’t stand out to me.

The Tingly Chili noodles had the best flavor. It wasn’t necessarily spicy, rather it was the “numbing” form of spice found in many Sichuan Chinese dishes from the use of Sichuan peppercorns. The thicker noodles clung onto the sauce well and had the chewiest texture. If you choose to buy one flavor, this one is my favorite!

The Spicy Soy noodles were my second favorite after the Tingly Chili. I personally couldn’t taste the spice, but I felt that these noodles had a better flavor compared to the Soy & Scallion ones. The sauce paired well with the noodles, but it still felt lacking in heat.

Overall, the Momofuku noodles were fun to try, but I would only purchase the Tingly Chili ones again. All varieties are quite salty, and you could easily add tofu and vegetables to make a meal. If you are curious to try them, but find that they are sold out on the Momofuku website, there are other A-Sha noodles sold at Cost Plus World Market that appear very similar to the Momofuku varieties.
